Technology
As Nexus create custom applications they are in the enviable position of being able to utilise the very latest cutting-edge development tools.
Nexus' preferred development platform is the Microsoft.NET framework. The framework currently provides the best opportunities to utilise Rapid Application Development (RAD) principles to reduce cost to clients whilst maintaining high quality and highly functional applications.
Specifically the tools and standards employed by Nexus for most new applications are:
- ASP.NET (with JavaScript for client side operations) for web forms and GUI's.
- C#/VB for application code.
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 as the Databse Management System (DMNS).
- Microsoft Server 2003 (running IIS 6) as the server operating system.
Additionally Nexus support older versions of the above standards including previous ASP.NET and old asp versions, and previous SQL Server and windows operating systems. The microsoft model is currently the prefered model although the Nexus development team are able to work using many different standards and languages and tools, and are often called upon to do so to integrate with 3rd party systems and applications.
Systems sometimes need to be written in PHP, JAVA, JSP or other non microsoft languages by the Nexus development team when the current client server, hardware and applications will only support those standards.
Additionally Nexus is able to work with a number of DBMS including:
- IBM DB2
- Oracle 9i, and
- MySQL
XHTML, CSS and Browsers
Almost all Nexus applications now utilise standard internet web browsers to deliver application interfaces to users. As such all Nexus GUI's conform the XHTML 1.0. The look and feel of sites is based almost predominantly on CSS 2.0 which gives greater control over changes to layout and conformity of layout and design.
Nexus web interfaces are designed to comply with W3C standards rather then individual 'broken browsers' which ensures they they display properly on the majority of browsers. Additionally nexus applications are tested thoroughly on IE 6.0 and Mozilla Firefox 1.0 (and later versions of both) which account for the vast majority of all our clients installed browsers.
